Fishing has been improving as water levels continue to drop. In 2 ½ days, a total of 766 fish were landed by 28 anglers: 15 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class.
Water levels continued to drop slowly during the last 10 days on the Branco basin and most north bank Negro tributaries. Water levels are now ½ to 1 foot below the jungle line in most fisheries. Except for maybe Wednesday and Thursday, there is a 10-day forecast of moderate to no rain on the Branco basin and the north bank Negro tributaries. If the forecast holds, it should be excellent fishing by next Saturday.
The Fly In Floating Cabins on the upper Araca may have some competition by sport yachts since water levels on the lower and mid sector might still allow for navigation; however, not for long, since water are dropping fast!
Except for anglers booked on the Xeurini exclusive fishery, next week’s anglers should come down since water level odds are in favor for good fishing. Xeurini parties may reschedule for later this season or next Fall since water levels are not low enough yet , or we can transfer them to another fishery.
Fishing has been mediocre due to a bit-too-high waters but fishing is improving . In 2 ½ days, a total of 235 fish were landed by 12 anglers: 12 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, and one was in the 17 – 19 lbs. class.
Except for anglers booked on the Xeurini exclusive fishery, next week’s anglers should come down since water level odds are in their favor for good fishing. Xeurini parties may reschedule for later this season or next Fall since water levels are not low enough.
Water levels have been dropping since last Wednesday on the Branco basin and some of the north bank Negro tributaries . Water levels are now almost below the jungle line in most fisheries. Except for maybe Saturday, there is a 10-day forecast of moderate to no rain on the Branco basin and the north bank Negro tributaries . If at least 80% of the forecast holds, it should be fishable by next Saturday and should be very good by next mid –week.
We plan to select the best of the following options:
In 2 ½ days, a total of 382 fish were landed by 22 anglers: 12 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, and only 1 was in the 17 – 19 lbs. class.
Except for the Negro channel and the lower Shufaris, fishing has been very poor due to high waters. The only two parties now fishing were well advised upfront. Fishing on the Branco basin, where we predicted less rain, is still not feasible due to levels . We had forecasted in our last fishing report that there was a small chance of this happening …well, it really happened!. All the previous weeks parties did not fish well..
However, we still think there is some hope for good water levels for all parties arriving on Jan 28th. There is a 10-day of “no to mild” rain forecast on the Branco basin where we have been predicting it would be the driest and, water levels have almost stopped to rise yesterday. If the forecast holds in 8-10 days it should start to be fishable.
Fishing on the Negro (Barcelos area) is reasonable since water levels have gone up slower. However, due to 4” of rain yesterday added to the 7-8” in the last 10 days at the headwaters, could result in unfishable levels up past Barcelos in 10 days.
We are therefore suggesting that all parties arriving this weekend to reschedule. The only fishery that might have “get by fishing” with small sizes is the Shufaris at the lower and mid sector, below our exclusive area (upper sector) and the Negro on the Black Water Express. (Another small party elected to transfer last week to our Golden Dorado exclusive fishery on the Uruguay River where fishing is excellent . They are currently landing an average of 85-100 Dorados per boat per 6 hours of daily fishing of which 17% are over 12 lbs and 2% over 25lbs. See this week’s report at www.RiverPlateDorados.com.)
In only 2 ½ days, a total of 638 fish were landed by 47 anglers: 17 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, and only 3 were in the 17 – 19 lbs. class
Fishing on the Branco basin (including the Shufaris) is bad to "get by" due to Thursday and Friday heavy rain. Water levels started dropping today in a few Branco basin tributaries and, we predict this should continue for at least 5-8 days since there is no significant rainfall forecasted.
Fishing on the Negro (Barcelos area) is "get by" . However, due extreme rain 6 to 10 days ago at the headwaters of the Negro could result in unfishable levels up past Barcelos in the next few days.
Although two of our seven parties have already reprogrammed, we suggest those that do not have flexible rescheduling possibilities to come down since odds seem slightly favorable for "get by" fishing. (One small party elected to transfer last week to our Golden Dorado exclusive fishery on the Uruguay River where fishing is almost always excellent . They are currently landing an average of 75-85 Dorados per boat per 6 hours of daily fishing of which 17% are over 12 lbs and 2% over 25lbs, See this weeks report at www.RiverPlateDorados.com)
We have no fishing results since we rescheduled all our parties for this week (Jan 1-8)
(One small party elected transfer to our Golden Dorado exclusive fishery in Uruguay where fishing is excellent . They are currently landing an average of 115 Dorados per boat per 6 hours of daily fishing of which 80% are over 12 lbs and 8% over 25lbs, see last weeks report at www.RiverPlateDorados.com)
Water levels are still a bit high but there is still a 50-50% hope . Nevertheless we are giving guests the option to reprogram . It is important that our incoming guests receive the below water level report.
