RIVER PLATE Amazon OUTFITTERS´ PEACOCK
BASS FISHING REPORTS POSTED WEEKLY!
December 18-20, 2010 (2-1/2 days)
We did not fish over Christmas week ; however, it is important that our incoming guests receive the below water level report
WATER LEVELS AT OUR AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHERIES:
- South: Water levels, which were low during July-Oct., are now, as expected, too high for fishing.
- Mid-South:Water levels are rising rapidly from its historic low levels but, sitll very fishable in a few selected areas on the Madeiras basin . We might fish with our Fly In Floating Cabins in one of River Plates exclusive Indian Reserves . Although rising water levels are not the best for fishing , guests can be sure that no matter how much it should rain it will still be fishable another 2 -3 weeks. And, it is a virgin fishery!
- Mid-North: (Unini Preserve and South Negro tributaries in the Barcelos area). Most of all South Negro tributaries have stopped rising (Cuiuini, Urubaxi, Eneuxi, etc.) since there has been less rain during the last 5 days. Therefore we might fish the headwaters of one of these rivers while we wait for the water levels to drop in the North and North East fisheries(see below).
- North: (North Negro tributaries in the Barcelos area). All North Negro tributaries also have stopped rising; however, except for the mouth they are still unfishably high . It is normal that water levels rise in December, called “repiguete”, and drop again in January-March.
-
North-East:(Roraima State). As we had forecasted 4 weeks ago , some of Río Branco tributaries’ water levels, including River Plate’s exclusives such as the upper Taperá, Xeurini, upper Shufari and Homero, were fishable for the past 2 weeks . But, with last Friday and Saturday hard rain we will have to wait another week for it to be fishable. Forecasts are for no rain in most of the Branco basin for the next 10 days.

REPORT
Due to rising water levels, last week most of our operations were rescheduled except for our exclusive Homero fishery. At the Homero, only one Fly-In Floating Cabin operated with excellent fishing in terms of quantity. In 2 1/2 days 5 anglers landed a total of 511 fish, only 5 of which were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class and 1 in the 17-19 lbs. class. However, fish size should improve dramatically as upper lagoons begin to be fished.
As we had forecasted, a few of our North-East fisheries are now fishable (see below)
WATER LEVELS AT OUR AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHERIES:
- South: Water levels, which were low during July-Oct., are now, as expected, too high for fishing.
- Mid-South: Water levels, which were low during Sept-Oct., are now, as expected, too high for fishing.
- Mid-North: (Unini Preserve and South Negro tributaries in the Barcelos area). Most of all South Negro tributaries have stopped rising (Cuiuini, Urubaxi, Eneuxi, etc.) since there has been less rain during the last 6 days. However, as reiterated during the last four weeks, since official weather forecasts continue to indicate above normal rainfall for the North of Brazil, these fisheries might not be fishable until the 20011/12 season.
- North: (North Negro tributaries in the Barcelos area). All North Negro tributaries also have stopped rising; however, except for the mouth they are still unfishable. It is normal that water levels rise in December, called "repiguete", and drop again in January-March.
-
North-East: (Roraima State). As we had forecasted last week, some of Río Branco tributaries’ water levels, including River Plate’s exclusives such as the upper Taperá, Xeurini, upper Shufari and Homero, are starting to become fishable. With the exception of last Friday’s and Saturday’s 1/8’’ rain, it has not rained for the last 12 days. At our Homero fishery waterlevels have dropped 2 ft. in the last 5 days and 80% of the high banks are fishable.
Forecasts are for some rain this week so we do not expect levels to drop much, if at all.

REPORT
Due to rising water levels almost everywhere, most of our operations were rescheduled. Only one Fly In Floating Cabin operated which had "get by" fishing. In 2 1/2 days 8 anglers landed a total of 105 fish, 2 of which were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class.
Reprogramming option: We might give Saturday incoming anglers the option to reprogram. We will confirm tomorrow at mid-day. There has been almost no rain in the Branco basin (see below). If it continues not to rain on the Homero exclusive fishery, it could be good by next mid-week.

North-East: (Roraima State). Most Río Branco tributaries’ water levels, including River Plate’s exclusives, such as the upper Taperá, Xeurini, upper Shufari and Homero are still too high for good fishing. But, this could change by next mid-week. With the exception of yesterday, it has not rained for the last 8 days. Waterlevels have dropped 2 ft. But still need to drop another 3 ft. We might operate in this area with one of our Fly-In Floating Cabins next week if, this tendency continues.
