PEACOCK BASS FISHING REPORTS - Jan/Oct. 2008

Listed bellow are the Mid-Week Fishing Reports as rushed by e-mail to our agents every Thursday in order that our week-end incoming guests may be duly informed before departure. As such, these reports are for only 3 days (instead of the full week).

Please note, these are true weights … sometimes in the Amazon the 17-19 lbs4. class are considered 20 lbs. trophies…

October 26th-28th , 2008 - Mid-Week Fishing Report for 3 days

In only 3 days, a total of 2948 fish were landed by 52 anglers: 48 fish were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, 1 were in the 17 – 19 lbs. class and 2 were in the 20 - 22 lbs. class.

Fishing has been reasonable in terms of quantity at four of the six Fly In Floating Cabins on the southern fisheries and the Black Water Explorer on the lower Shurfaris. However, the other two  Fly In Floating Cabins, one on the  upper Cuiuini and the other on the upper Shufaris had  poor fishing  since,  the last four days  hard  rain raised water levels into the jungle (guests were advised upfront this could happen…).

All competitors are fishing on Negro channel down river from Barcelos with similar water levels as that on the lower Shurfaris but, not doing as well as the Black Water since their area has not been protected against over fishing

February 8th-10th , 2008 - Mid-Week Fishing Report for 3 days

Despite the very few areas where water levels are adequate, fishing continues to be good. However, since there are only a few areas with good water levels, we have some competition. (The water levels at the mouth are high thus competing fast boats can reach the head waters. Also there has been lots of rain and water levels are rising a bit. Incoming guest should be informed of these two risks).

In only 3 days, a total of 2510 fish were landed by 45 anglers, 61 of which were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class, 8 were in the 17 – 19 lbs. class and 3 were in the 20 - 22 lbs. class.

* North-East: (Roraima State): The Río Branco tributaries water levels in our exclusives on the Taperá, Xeurini and Omero headwaters are perfect, which is normal this time of the year. We are now fishing these areas.
* North: (Barcelo’s area): Water levels at all Río Negro tributaries, except for the Araca/Demini, are high.
* Mid North: (above the waterfalls of our exclusive Unini Park): Water levels are high, which is normal this time of the year.
* Mid South: (Indian Reserves: Igoapaçú, Matupiri, Tupana, etc.): Water levels are high, which is normal this time of the year.
* South: (Marmelos Indian reserve): Water levels are high, which is normal this time of the year.
