REPORT
Due to rising water levels almost everywhere, our Fly In Floating Cabins III and V had “get by” fishing but, Fly In Floating Cabins I (one) did well. In 2 1/2 days 24 anglers landed a total of 814 fish, 23 of which were in the 10 - 16 lbs. class and 1 in the 23 lbs. class.
Reprogramming option: We might give Saturday incoming anglers the option to reprogram. We will confirm tomorrow at mid-day. There has been no rain during the last three days. If rain resumes, fishing could get worse. On the other hand, if it stops, the remote headwaters of the North Negro fisheries (see below) could be very good by next mid-week.
WATER LEVELS AT OUR AMAZON PEACOCK BASS FISHERIES:
- South: Water levels, which were low during July-Oct., are now, as expected, too high for fishing.
- Mid-South: Water levels, which were low during Sept-Oct., are now, as expected, too high for fishing.
- Mid-North: (Unini Preserve and South Negro tributaries in the Barcelos area). With the exception of the Unini Preserve, most of all South Negro tributaries continue to rise (Cuiuini, Xeurini, Eneuxi, etc.). As mentioned during the last two weeks, since official weather forecasts continue to indicate above normal rainfall for the North of Brazil, these fisheries might be not fishable until the 20011/12 season.
- North: (North Negro tributaries in the Barcelos area). There is a small sign of hope since it did not rain last Saturday, Sunday and Monday. All North Negro tributaries still have fishable levels at the mouth; however, anglers must expect fishing pressure.
-
North-East: (Roraima State). Most Río Branco’s tributaries’ water levels, including River Plate’s exclusives, such as the upper Taperá, Xeurini and upper Shufari are still too high for good fishing, which could happen this early in the season.

- Mid-North: (Unini Preserve and South Negro tributaries in the Barcelos area). With the exception of the Unini Preserve, most all South Negro tributaries continue to rise to unfishable levels (Cuiuini, Xeurini, Eneuxi, etc.). As mentioned last week , since official weather forecasts continue to indicate above normal rainfall for the North of Brazil, these fisheries might be not fishable until the 20011/12 season.
- North: (North Negro tributaries in the Barcelos area). There is a small sign of hope since it did not rain last Thursday thru Saturday. All North Negro tributaries still have fishable levels, although until this morning water levels continued to rise a bit. Some tributaries, such as the Shufaris,Preto,Paduari, etc. are high at the very top but, they are fishable in the lower sector, so we are also moving Fly In Cabins IV, our third operation in this area. However, in the lower section of these rivers anglers must expect fishing pressure.
-
North-East:(Roraima State). Most Río Branco’s tributaries’ water levels, including River Plate’s exclusives, such as the upper Taperá, Xeurini and upper Shufari are too high for good fishing, which is normal this early in the season. However, the Omero lakes next to the Branco might be fishable, so we might be operating with Fly-In Floating Cabins II.

- North: (North Negro tributaries in the Barcelos area). The recent hard rain on the Rio Negro came as a blessing since it was not navigable in many areas. Water levels at most all North Negro tributaries are very good. Some tributaries such as the Araca , Shufaris ,etc are a bit high at the very top from the recent hard rain but , they are very fishable in the mid sector.
