The portion of the Amazon basin with prime low water levels keeps shrinking, with only the far northeastern region now offering productive conditions. Fortunately, River Plate Anglers enjoys exclusive access to more than 600 miles of rivers in that zone. This week, those rivers produced more than 9,500 peacock bass for our 46 anglers, with many boats over 150 fish a day! Of the total, 450 of them were double-digit fish, with 33 weighing more than 16 lbs.

LIFE MEMORIES: Catching a trophy-size peacock bass will make any angler’s day — or their year, for that matter. So, when Roger released his 22 lb beauty back into the waters of the Itapará River last week, he was more than satisfied with his morning. But the river had more in store for him. Not long after, he was able to sight-cast to a spectacular arapaima that put up an incredible battle.
RAINFALL MANAGEMENT: Our Northeast Zone, outlined in red on the map below, remains by far the most productive region of the Amazon. This week, we fished the Jufari, Itapará, Xeurini, and Mata-Mata Rivers. This pattern typically should hold well through February.

The rainfall forecast for next week shows why. The white and light blue areas near the top center are expected to receive little or no rainfall, meaning the rivers that drain the region will stay low or possibly drop even further. Stable and falling water means continued high catch rates for our anglers, and we currently have 6 River Trains in the area on stand-by ready to take guests to untouched stretches of river.
