GETTING TO MANAUS, AMAZON

The arrival city for your trip to the Amazon is Manaus, the capital of the State of Amazonas, Brazil. It is a 5-hour non-stop flight from Miami with evening departures on American Airlines two to three times a week. Manaus can also be reached via daily overnight flights from most major cities in the US and elsewhere via the country of Panama. Also, some
flights may arrive in Manaus too late to catch a same-day float plane, forcing an extra overnight at a nearby 4- to 5-star hotel.

GETTING TO OUR PRIVATE RIVERS.

Our parties of six to eight anglers fly into our eight River Trains at 6 a.m. every Saturday on Cessna Caravan turboprop float planes that depart from a domestic airport in Manaus. Flights take from 45 minutes to two hours depending on the river to be fished. Our local departure schedule requires guests to arrive in Manaus on Friday. Most arrive on nonstop flight from Miami International Airport, and they catch that same flight back to Miami a week later at just after midnight, touching down in the US at dawn on Saturday.

NO VISA

A valid U.S. passport is required for entrance into all South American countries. No tourist visa is required for U.S. citizens to enter Brazil. Make sure your passport is valid and does not expire before or during the time you will be outside the United States. It takes a few days to process a new passport, so please plan accordingly.

VACCINES

A Yellow Fever shot is suggested although not required. Our rivers and camps are located in remote areas where transmission of diseases is close to zero. There have been a few but low reports of Yellow Fever cases in Manaus but it is quite unlikely that you will encounter mosquitoes in the city.

Basic vaccines like Hepatitis A/B and Tetanus are strongly suggested for any third-world country travel.

BAGGAGE AND WEIGHT LIMITS

There is a strictly-enforced restriction on our float plane flights as follows:

-Weight limit including carry-on is 35 lbs.

-“Check-in” luggage must be packed in soft duffle bags with no rigid bottom.

All luggage (carry-on and check-in) will be weighed at the airport. No over-weight baggage will be allowed. Any excess baggage may be left in Manaus with our guide. Please do not bring coolers or hard luggage. The camp has daily laundry service, so bringing a lot of clothing is not necessary

Beer can limit: Because of the remoteness of our operations, we have a limit of 45 cans per guest, per week. For safety reasons, we limit the beer to six cans per angler during the day.

Wine bottle limit: For the same reasons, there is a limit of four wine bottles per guest, per week.

INSURANCE

We suggest that you enroll in a Global Rescue Membership Policy that can arrange medical evacuation from remote locations. A short term (7 days) membership can range between $140 and $260 per person. Global Rescue can be purchased through the following link.

Note that the cost of an extra float plane to come and evacuate you is between $4000 and $7000.

We have had just a couple of medical evacuations in 35 years of fishing the jungle, but insurance is a low price to pay in the event something happens.
