Mid-Week Fishing Report: Oct 24 – 26, 2020 (2 ½ DAYS)

Blockbuster landings after start-up

both in 2 ½ days

WATER LEVELS DROPPING IN THE BRANCO – GOOD FISHING!

 

Week end´s tally (2 1/2 days):
Note: this only 2 1/2 - day report is to rush last weekend’s conditions to our incoming anglers.
Lakes (Omero, Mau and Mata-Mata) in Dry-Zone N. East -: The Gaetha  group of 8 anglers arrived on Saturday 24th landing 464 peacock bass in just 2 1/2 days with a mixed basket that included aruanas, bicudas, piranhas, etc. Last week’s final count was 1.968 by the departing Sapelli group with several trophies 17,18,19 category. Best performing lures are propellers and top water lures. Water levels are perfect. Mid-Xeriuni fishery in Dry-Zone N. East -: The Rogelio group of 12 arrived on Saturday 24th landing 386 peacock bass in just 2 1/2 days. Not all of the group were avid anglers. Water levels are very fishable and expected to drop slowly. The previous Xeriuini group for the week finished with 1610 peacocks. Good fishing conditions are expected in the coming days. Star lures are perversas and joao pepinos.

in Dry-Zone N. East

Water level report: Dry-Zone N. East - The Branco River is low from little rain fall in its Venezuela basin so all of mouths of its tributaries have low water levels with excellent fishing. And, we are now fishing right in there! Dry-Zone N. West - All water levels on the Negro River basin tributaries still remain high for reasonable fishing, which is not normal for this time of the year but it is happening with greater frequency due to the everchanging rain fall conditions in the “El Nino” era. The only exception with lower water levels is the lower Xeriuni River in our private water which is under the influence of the Branco River basin. Dry-Zone S. East - Water levels are still good in this area 150 miles south of Manaus. Our private rivers in this Dry-Zone time period were also closed down due to Covid. Dry-Zone S. West - Water levels are too low for good for good fishing. Our private rivers in this Dry-Zone time period of June-August were closed down due to Covid.

Xeriuni in Dry-Zone N. West –: Last weekend we received our second party for this season; the Sapelli group of 12 anglers who are enjoying great fishing conditions and had a good start landing ~480 peacock bass within a mixed basket that included aruanas, bicudas, piranhas, etc. Fishing conditions are expected to be excellent in the coming days. Our start-up party whom departed last week ending on Oct 18, the Olsen group of 12 anglers ended their week with 1810 peacock bass landed in only 4 full fishing days with several trophies 17,18,19 category and one 21 lbs.

Water level report: Dry-Zone N. East - All water levels of the Branco River basin tributaries are perfect. See green area in the map above. Our private rivers in this area are being rested until November for productivity management policies.    Dry-Zone N. West -  All water levels on the Negro River basin tributaries have been to high the last 10-20 days for reasonable, which is happening with greater frequency due to the everchanging rain fall conditions in the “El Nino” era. The only exception with lower water levels is the mid to lower Xeriuini River in our private water.  Dry-Zone S. East - Water levels are too low for good for good fishing. Our private rivers in this Dry-Zone time period were closed down due to Covid. Dry-Zone S. West - Water levels are still good. Our private rivers in this Dry-Zone time period were also closed down due to Covid.

River Plate Angler’s Covid Safety Program

Face Mask Compliance – All drivers of transfer vehicles, all float plane pilots and their passengers, all food service workers, all guides will be wearing masks. As regards guides, all of them will be tested for infection at the beginning of the season and no mingling with the community afterward will be permitted until the end of the season.

Social Distancing Compliance – All River Plate Staff will be trained in compliance with internationally accepted standards of social distancing

Covid-Compliant Hotel in Manaus – The hotel River Plate Anglers has chosen to accommodate arriving clients (Quality Hotel) meets all international standards as regards the prevention of Covid transmission. Front Desk personnel, waiters and others will be instructed to be especially attentive to River Plate clients’ safety concerns. On arrival, all clients’ luggage will be disinfected before it is delivered to hotel rooms. Clients will be required to step on chlorine wet mats, and their clothing will be sprayed with alcohol before entering their rooms. Waiters in the hotel restaurant will be face-mask complaint and trained in Social Distancing.

Covid-Compliant Float Plane Pilots and Staff – All client luggage will be disinfected before it is loaded on the plane. Passengers and flight staff will be required to step on chlorine wet mats, and their clothing will be sprayed with alcohol before flight begins. Pilots and passengers will be required to wear face masks at all times. Pilot will set ventilation settings in passenger cabin on maximum.

Daily Cleaning and Sanitation In Camp – In conformance with protocols established by the American Hotel and Lodging Association, all surfaces in cabins and in dining areas will be cleaned and sanitized before clients arrive and then daily, or more often as appropriate. Only approved staff members and clients will be allowed to enter clients’ cabins. Fresh towels and client laundry items will be delivered daily to clients’ rooms. All laundry items, including guest clothing, will be washed at 158° Fahrenheit. Hand sanitizer will be provided in all cabins, boats, and in the dining area. Guests may opt for daily or bi-weekly room sanitization.

Outside Dining – All camp meals will be served outside, buffet-style, by employees wearing masks and gloves. Clients will not be allowed to serve themselves. On rare occasions of foul weather, guests will be served in their cabins.

Fishing Tackle Disinfection – All camp-provided fishing tackle will be disinfected before fishing starts. Lines will be soaked in soapy water and left to dry in open sunlight for at least two hours. Exposure to open sunlight for as little as seven minutes has been proven to be lethal to viruses, including Covid-19.
